Ghazipur, located in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, is a city with growing regional significance due to its historical importance and strategic location near the Ganges River. Moreover, the navigation system in Ghazipur plays a vital role in connecting its rural hinterlands with urban centers and facilitating trade and mobility. In addition, the city relies primarily on a road and rail-based transportation network. Specifically, national and state highways provide road links to major cities like Varanasi, Azamgarh, and Ballia, while Ghazipur City Railway Station connects the district to the broader Indian Railways network. Furthermore, public transport includes buses, shared tempos, auto-rickshaws, and cycle-rickshaws, which are commonly used for daily commuting. Recently, there has also been interest in reviving inland waterway transport via the Ganges under national waterway projects.
